Today was beach day. Of course Tim is against beach day due to his irrational fear of sand, but he made me a promise and I intended on holding him to it. The promise? That if I lost 15 pounds by the time we went to Florida, he would take me to the beach.
I've been trying to lose weight for some time now, but about 5 weeks ago I decided that I was going to really try, and not give up. For motivation's sake, Tim and I came up with a small list of goals and rewards. The first goal: 15 pounds by Florida, reward: the beach. I fell a little short of my goal. I lost 12 pounds, but we're both really proud of me and I deserve to go to the beach.
The kicker is that Tim hates the beach. He hates the sand, the way it sticks to your feet when you get out of the water, and the rough feeling of pealing it off. Like I could care. He went, sucked it up for a few hours, whined a bit and then we took off.
The beach wasn't as commercial as a lot of the beaches in Florida. It was just a small quite neighborhood beach on the Gulf of Mexico. One thing that I couldn't help but notice was the amount of lesbian couples. Who knew there was a strong lesbian population in Hernando County? That was pretty cool to see. One thing I think is weird about Chicago is the lack of publicly open queer couples, especially women. Of course there's Andersonville on a weekend night, but in Minneapolis the queers run rampant. Maybe I'm just in the "wrong" Chicago neighborhoods, but it's just an observation from my time in the Windy City.
Tim's step-mom, Marilyn, and I made breakfast and we're about to go shopping while the men move stuff into the attic and install a ceiling fan. I'd rather go shopping.
So, so far so good. We're having a great time in Spring Hill, Florida, Tim's family is more than welcoming and wonderful. I felt comfortable around them right away. It's nice to see the other side of where Tim comes from, and I can definitely tell where he gets a lot of his personality.
Tonight we're just going to BBQ at home and play pinochle. I'm sure Grandma and Grandpa Trout will be happy that I'm learning how to play.
Tomorrow we're planning on going to a more popular/conventional beach with lots of shops and restaurants (sorry Tim), but other than that the day is left open.
Tim can't figure out how to hook up our lap-top to his parents' wireless, but pictures will be coming soon. Including one of the Styrofoam cooler after Tim sat on it. HA!!!
